NStrim at Taitaja2026, Finland's National Skills Championship

Taitaja, the national skills championship organised by Skills Finland, came to Tuusula as Taitaja2026 Keski-Uusimaa from 18 to 21 May 2026. Around 400 competitors took part across nearly fifty skills, competing on the floor from Tuesday to Thursday, with the opening and closing ceremonies streamed. NStrim sponsored the cloud environments for the web development track.

Taitaja is a public event in the fullest sense — school groups and visitors walk the halls while competitors work. That makes reliability less of a technical preference than a courtesy to people being watched while they concentrate.

Sixty seconds, then get out of the way

Each competitor worked in an isolated container with a personal subdomain, a Gitea repository, a PostgreSQL database with pgAdmin, and a browser-based editor — provisioned in under a minute, with nothing installed on the venue's machines. Between modules, snapshots returned every environment to a known-good state, so an error in one task never carried into the next and a broken environment could be restored in seconds rather than costing a competitor their round.

Experts ran the track from Mission Control: live status for every environment, pause and resume for the whole session, time added mid-module where the situation called for it, and snapshots at each checkpoint for rollback and grading.

Three countries, one platform

Taitaja was our second national competition of 2026, after SkillsLatvia — and the third country we worked in, counting the Latvian delegation we sponsored to Hungary's Szakma Sztár Fesztivál. The pattern across them is that no two want the same thing: Finland on our cloud, Latvia's final on hardware we wheeled into an exhibition hall, and a semi-final round spread across thirteen schools before that.
